Tillandsia Care

Tillandsias, also known by their common name air plants, are the coolest members of the bromeliad family. They can survive on their own without being planted in soil. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need some TLC every now and then.

Quick Tips

Water 1-2 times per week

How to Take Care of Me

How much water do they need?

There are two methods you can use to water your tillandsias.  The first is to mist them with a squirt bottle every couple days, and the second is to give them a thorough soaking, or “bath” for about 20-30 minutes once every week or two.  If you go the thorough soaking route just make sure to shake off any excess water to allow the plant to dry between waterings.

How much light do they need?

Tillandsias like bright, filtered light and can even thrive under artificial indoor lighting.  We recommend keeping them out of direct outdoor sunlight as it can cause them to burn, but if you put them in a windowsill that receives sun you will notice most tillandsias begin to blush pink or red from the extra light.

Tillandsia Projects

Tillandsias are great plants for making arrangements.  They can be used in terrariums, or glued to just about anything.  If you’re planning on gluing your plants we recommend using either hot glue (allow the glue to cool for a few seconds before dipping the plant) or using E6000 Tillandsia Adhesive.  The hot glue will dry faster, but you do risk burning your plant if you aren’t careful, so just make sure if you go that route that you exercise caution when applying the glue to your plants.
